LED Working Principle

A light-emitting diode (LED), like a regular diode, is composed of a PN junction and also exhibits unidirectional conductivity. When a forward voltage is applied to the LED, holes injected from the P region into the N region and electrons injected from the N region into the P region recombine within a few micrometers near the PN junction, producing spontaneous radiative fluorescence. The energy states of electrons and holes differ in various semiconductor materials. The amount of energy released when electrons and holes recombine varies; the more energy released, the shorter the wavelength of the emitted light. Commonly used LEDs emit red, green, or yellow light. The reverse breakdown voltage of an LED is greater than 5 volts. Its forward voltage-current characteristic curve is very steep, so a series current-limiting resistor must be used to control the current through the diode.

Power adapter product type

VT is the power adapter switch tube, controlled by the excitation pulse, operating in cutoff and saturation states. C1 is the filter capacitor in the AC voltage rectification and filtering circuit. VD is the freewheeling diode, which provides a power supply path to the load when the switch tube is off. L is the energy storage inductor (i.e., the switching transformer). C2 is the filter capacitor at the output end of the power adapter.

Power Adapter Usage

There are generally several important items to note on the label of a power adapter (hereafter referred to as adapter). First, the model of the adapter, for example, this adapter's model is XVE-120100, which provides us with several pieces of information, such as the manufacturer and main parameters. Models starting with XVE usually indicate the company code; 120100 means this adapter is 12V 1A, while 050200 means 5V 2A. Second is the adapter's INPUT, which in China is generally AC100-240V~50-60Hz, indicating that this adapter can operate normally under an AC voltage range of 100V to 240V. Third is the adapter's OUTPUT, DC 12V=1A, representing a rated voltage of 12V DC and a maximum current of 1A. These two numbers can quickly calculate the wattage of the adapter; for example, this adapter's voltage 12V multiplied by current 1A equals 12W (power), indicating this power supply is a 12W adapter.
